"Too much of tax payers' money in RBS for this size of bonus to be paid out. Also, should bonuses not be given as a reward for outstanding financial performance?"

"Yes it's a ridiculous amount of money, yes it make me feel sick to think about it! and should anyone get such a ridiculous payout, no but put it into context! He was employed to turn around a loss making business into a significantly profitable one and we know that took a lot of work! so why shouldn't he be entitled to some of that action! "

"At last someone is showing some common sense. Mind you with this £1.2M a year salary, I doubt this will mean he'll have to pull his belt in."

"No, because this could be the start of a new brain drain. If Britain UK Ltd. starts a witch hunt on the very elite of our Captains of Industry, they will just go overseas leaving mediocracy in their place. Greece has this and look at the mess they are in"

"Bonuses should be awarded for something you've done over and above your normal job. With RBS share prices down, it's difficult to argue that he'd done that. Rejecting his bonus sent a refreshing message to the City that bonuses should be regarded as just that - a bonus, rather than a right. "

"It sends out the right signal at a time when everyone is expected to share in the austerity measures. "

"He may well have been legally entitled to it, so that's not the real question. Shouldn't we be condemning the numpty who put that into his contract in the first place?"

"Although he wasn't responsible for the financial wows at RBS, I feel given the universal hatred of bankers he had no choice and in the long run it may well work in his favour."

"I think he should have accepted it then spent it all in a week to get the economy going again. Better still, he could have used it for an advertising campaign on the radio booked by the pro's here at RadioWorks!"

"Why should he turn down his bonus - Would any salesperson including those working in media say ""no thanks you keep it." I think not. Leave the guy alone - Fair play he negotiated a great bonus scheme from his employers. Nicky "

"Surely there is room for a compromise here, I would say 30% would have still been a cracking bonus !! No fat cats actually earn their huge bonuses anyway, so he sent out the right message."

"It's pure, unadulterated greedy filth!"
