Browsing through the EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) on your TV while watching your current channel is something we’ve all become accustomed to when using the TV at home. Now, boffins at Frontier Silicon have produced the first working prototype for radio.
Incorporating both digital and FM it will enable listeners to seamlessly tune between FM and digital frequencies and choose stations by name.
The beauty of this is that local stations, who do not migrate to digital, will be treated the same as digital stations on future radio’s should Digital Radio UK go ahead and decide to integrate the technology.
This is obviously great news for local radio and a real breakthrough in ensuring that local commercial and community stations remain on par with the digital services.
